James Lavish is the Managing Partner of the Bitcoin Opportunity Fund, a hybrid investment fund that makes public and private investments in the Bitcoin ecosystem. He is also the author of The Informationist, a newsletter with over 35K subscribers that simplifies one financial concept weekly. Lavish has over two decades of institutional investing and risk management experience, having worked for investment banks and hedge funds. He served as Chief Operating Officer of Alternative Investments at LKCM, a $26 billion asset management firm in Texas. Before that, he was a Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Ranger Arbitrage, Head Arbitrage Trader and Officer of the Compliance Committee for Carlson Capital. Lavish is also a Yale and Cornell alum who was drafted by the National Hockey League.
EARLY CAREER
Lavish has over two decades of institutional investing and risk management experience, mainly in hedge fund and private equity.
He managed the formation and operations of LKCM Private Discipline Fund, a $400 million hybrid private equity and long/short hedge fund.
He was Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager at Ranger Arbitrage, a hedge fund focused on small cap mergers and event-driven opportunities.
He was Head Arbitrage Trader for Carlson Capital, responsible for trading $1.5 billion in global risk arbitrage portfolio.
He was also Vice President and Risk Arbitrage Trader for Tribeca Investments, where he traded equities in a $300 million global risk arbitrage portfolio and bonds in a $100 million distressed portfolio for a corporate sponsored $1 billion hedge fund.
Before that, he was an international ADR arbitrage trader on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange for SG Warburg.
