Mark Anson is the CEO, President, and Chief Investment Officer of the Commonfund, a leading asset management firm. He also serves as Chair of the Boards of CF Private Equity and Commonfund OCIO. Previously, he was the President and CIO for the Bass Family Office, which was recognized as Family Office of the Year for 2014 & 2015. Before that, he served as President and Global Head of Investment Management at Nuveen Investments, a full-service asset management company with over $900 billion in assets under management. Anson has published over 100 investment articles in professional journals and has won three Best Paper Awards. He has also received several industry awards in recognition of his leadership in asset management.
As CIO, he is responsible for overall client asset allocation, portfolio management and manager research, and due diligence across equities, fixed income, and hedge funds.
He also serves as Chairman of the Boards of Commonfund Capital and Commonfund Asset Management.

EARLY CAREER
Anson was CEO and CIO for the British Telecom Pension Scheme, the largest institutional investor in the UK with assets of £55 billion.
He served as CEO of Hermes Pensions Management in London, a £65 billion asset management company that is wholly owned by the BTPS.
Before that, he was the Chief Investment Officer of the California Public Employees' Retirement System, the largest institutional investor in the United States with over $400 billion in assets.
FORMER AFFILIATIONS
He is the former Chairman of the Board of the International Corporate Governance Network and also served on the boards for the CFA Institute, Dow Jones-AIG Commodity Index, International Association of Financial Engineers, and the SEC Advisory Committee.
He also served on the Curriculum Committee for the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association and the Advisory Board to the NYSE Chairman for New York Stock Exchange/Euronext.
He is the author of five financial textbooks including the Handbook of Alternative Assets, which is the primary textbook used for the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst program.
He is the only person to serve on the Board of Governors for both the CFA Institute and the CAIA Association.
