Stephen Brown is the Emeritus Professor of Finance at New York University Stern School of Business. He teaches courses in financial markets, financial economics and investment philosophies in real estate. Brown has been with NYU Stern since 1986. His primary research areas of interest include hedge funds, mutual funds, Japanese equity markets, empirical finance and asset allocation and investment management. He also serves as Professor at the Banking and Finance Department at Monash University.

EARLY CAREER
Prior to joining NYU in 1986, he served as District Manager at the AT&T Pension Fund at Bell Telephone Laboratories.
He also served as Associate Professor of Finance at Yale University.
He was a Founding Editor of the Review of Financial Studies and has just stepped down as Managing Editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.

Brown has written numerous articles that have appeared in publications.
His work has appeared in Journal of Finance, Econometrica, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Journal of Business.
He has served as an expert witness for the US Department of Justice and has testified on his research before a Full Committee Hearing of the U.S. Congress House Financial Services Committee.
He is the author of five books, two of which have been translated into Japanese.
